The Ego and the Illusion of Control
For many of us, the journey of becoming a healer begins with good intentions. But along the way, we can fall into a trap: the ego’s need to feel validated, superior, or in control.
This trap is reinforced by the world around us. Traditional systems tell us, “Unless you’ve paid your dues—time, money, certifications—you’re not worthy.” Marketing and competition feed the idea that you must constantly prove your expertise: “Have you done this? Have you mastered that?” It creates an endless cycle of fear, greed, and self-doubt.
But the ego doesn’t just stop at fear. For some, it turns into pride. The healer becomes attached to their knowledge, years of experience, or techniques. They begin to preach rather than guide, to teach from a place of superiority rather than service. The ego whispers: “I’ve spent 20 years learning this. I know better.”
This is where healing gets complicated. When ego takes over—whether through fear or pride—it obstructs the flow of divine energy. Healing is no longer about the person seeking help. It becomes about the healer proving themselves.
The Healer’s Ego
Let’s address the ego-driven behaviors that can arise in healing work:
• The Preacher: Speaking as though there’s only one right way (your way), dismissing others’ experiences or paths.
• The Expert Complex: Over-relying on credentials, certifications, or years of practice as proof of superiority.
• The Savior: Feeling responsible for “fixing” others, rather than allowing them their own journey.
These behaviors don’t come from alignment or service—they come from insecurity. The healer starts to believe their worth is tied to how much they know, how long they’ve practiced, or how much they’ve achieved. But healing isn’t about the healer. It’s about the divine working through them.
Releasing the Ego
To truly step into the role of a healer, you must let go of the ego’s illusions—both fear and pride. Here’s how:
• Humble Yourself: Remind yourself that healing doesn’t originate from you. You are the channel, not the source. The divine flows through you, not because of your credentials, but because of your openness.
• Serve, Don’t Preach: Your role is to guide, not to dictate. Approach every session with curiosity and humility, knowing that the person in front of you is their own greatest healer.
• Detach from Outcomes: You are not responsible for “fixing” anyone. The divine does the work; your role is to create space for it to happen.
• Return to Trust: Trust the divine timing, the process, and your intuition. You don’t need to have all the answers—you simply need to allow.
The Inner Journey
Traditional systems have conditioned us to seek external validation, but healing requires something deeper. It asks us to turn inward, to develop our intuition, and to trust our alignment with the divine.
When we release the ego’s need to control, we find freedom. We stop preaching, proving, or competing, and instead become vessels for divine energy. We allow healing to happen—not because of what we’ve done, but because of who we are.
A Simple Reminder
The next time you feel the pull of the ego—whether it’s doubt, pride, or the need to control—pause. Ask yourself:
• Am I speaking from alignment, or from the need to prove myself?
• Am I trusting the process, or am I trying to control it?
• Am I serving, or am I preaching?
Let go of the fear, the pride, and the illusion of control. Healing doesn’t come from your years of experience, your certifications, or your methods. It comes from your willingness to serve as an instrument of the divine.
Remember, you are not the source of healing. You are not the expert, the savior, or the preacher. You are the instrument. Trust that. And let the divine flow through you.
